Our team has dealt with a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters, including the following highlights:
- Acting for one of Singapore’s then-largest insurers in a dispute arising out of a breach of a condition precedent in an insurance policy. This resulted in a landmark decision, entitling the insurer to repudiate liability under said policy – Stork Technology Services Asia Pte Ltd v First Capital Insurance Ltd [2006] 3 SLR(R) 652.
- Advising the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore in a cross-border recovery action against one of its Malaysian members for a sum in excess of $1 million – see also Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore v AM General Insurance Bhd [2018] 4 SLR 882.
- Representing twenty insurers in arbitration arising out of a market agreement against one insurer. The amount in dispute was in excess of $5 million.
- Representing insurers in a dispute arising out of a call on a performance bond with a bond sum which was in excess of $1 million.
- Representing a reinsured in claims against its reinsurer and reinsurance broker pertaining to a quota share treaty.
- Representing both the motor insurer and the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore in the seminal case of 𝘓𝘪𝘮 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘪 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘷 𝘔𝘐𝘉 & 𝘖𝘳𝘴 [2025] SGDC 144, in which the scope of motor insurers’ powers in respect of acting as “insurer concerned” on behalf of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore was clarified by Singapore Courts for the first time.
- Advising one of the world’s largest palm oil producers on their industrial all risks policy, comprehensive machinery policy and reinsurance coverage, with yearly premiums in excess of $5 million;
- Advising an insurer in a dispute for a claim in excess of $4 million concerning alleged damage during the supply and installation of a generator step up transformer.
- Contributing author to Chapters 7 and 8 of Legal Aspects of Insurance (The Singapore College of Insurance, 2020, 1st – 6th Edition); and
- Conducting lectures for students at the Singapore College of Insurance and insurance brokers in Cambodia.
