Gerald has more than 25 years of local and offshore experience and practices in the fields of Disputes Resolution especially international arbitration, in Shipping and Admiralty, Trade & Commodities, Insurance and Energy, Oil & Gas. His geographical focus is on North Asia (China, Taiwan), South Asia (India, Sri Lanka) and Southeast Asia.

An experienced dispute resolution lawyer, Gerald’s portfolio spans across a range of industries with a particular focus on shipping, marine insurance, commodities and oil and gas disputes. His extensive experience in contentious shipping work includes admiralty enforcement, cargo claims, oil and gas disputes for well-known oil majors, contracts of affreightment, marine insurance and P&I matters.

Gerald has a particular focus on marine insurance, having acted for insurers including Chubb, AXA, AMLIN, Steamship Mutual P&I and QBE on both cargo and hull matters, as well as in cargo recovery actions.

He has handled many cases before the Singapore courts and has experience in handling and conducting arbitration proceedings in London and Singapore in institutional and non-institutional arbitrations, as well as instructed both local and foreign counsels on matters related to carriage of goods by sea and air in China, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Greece, Turkey, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus and Lagos, Nigeria.

He also has experience in marine restructuring and insolvency matters. Gerald also has significant insurance experience, covering coverage & liability, hull & machinery, cargo, trade credit, enforcement and recovery, as well as general liability.

On the non-contentious front, Gerald handles ship finance, ship sales and purchases, registration and change of flag matters, review and advice of charterparties, ship management and manning agreements.

Gerald is qualified to practice Singapore and English law and speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. He is currently Chairman of the Foreign Bar Liaison Committee (Europe Chapter) and the International Relations Committee of the Law Society of Singapore. He is also a member with the Law Society of Singapore, the International Malaysian Society of Maritime Law, the Singapore Academy of Law, the Maritime Law Association of Singapore as well as the panel member of the Thailand Arbitration Centre. Gerald sits as a Neutral Evaluator for the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre.
